Contextual Statement

The College Success Scholars (CSS) database project was an initiative I led as an executive board member of the CSS program under the Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Education. This program supports incoming Black and Latino male Freshmen and Sophomores, promoting professional and academic success. To better manage and demonstrate the program's impact, I proposed the development of a database system that replaced outdated paper logs. The project aimed to streamline the collection, organization, and analysis of student engagement data for the program's 150+ members, sponsors, and facilitators.

This project demonstrates my ability to design and implement robust data structures and search algorithms to solve real-world problems. On the back end, I developed an efficient system for managing tutoring, traffic data, and analytics, enabling the program to track grades and engagement. On the front end, I facilitated member access to weekly participation analytics, empowering students to monitor their progress and engage more actively.

In this project, I led a team of seven Computer Science students in the program, using sprints and Git version control to manage our organization. The resulting database has boosted the efficiency of many of the program's weekly procedures. Sponsors can now review detailed engagement reports, facilitators use the data to allocate tutoring resources effectively, and leadership participation is tracked for better mentoring outcomes. This project reflects my strengths in leadership, teamwork, and technical problem-solving, skills I will continue to apply in my professional career.
